Diabetes is on the rise! More Americans are at risk for heart disease, strokes, losing eye sight and much more! The good news is that beating a lifestyle of diabetes is possible if you are pre-diabetic or a type 2 diabetic!

We all love good news!! And this good news applies for anyone who has diabetes AND for those who don’t! “How is that?”, you ask. Because everyone should try and improve their health.

There are three components that will  improve your health. This is very important with your lifestyle of diabetes because these components will enable you to beat your type 2 diabetes!

  1. Diet – Learn to eat healthy foods and eat smaller portions.  Exchange soda for water! Don’t think of this as another diet you need to start. This diet is a change of lifestyle! Munch on veggies, measure your snack food and keep it minimal. This doesn’t mean you can never have a cookie. This means you might limit your intake or cut the portion size.
  2. Exercise – Beginning any type of exercise is better then being sedentary all day long.  I can hear the groans. “Ohhhhh no!”, you say. Don’t stop reading. Bear with me.  Get a routine going. Walk every day for 5 minutes. If it helps, do it at the same time every day. A couple days later, increase it to 15 minutes and do that for a couple more days. Within one to three months, you should have increased your length up to 45 minutes! The key is to start off slowly and create a great habit. Most people try to make too big of a change and end up failing. Don’t do that!
  3. Weight Loss – People who carry extra weight on their bodies are also forcing their body to work harder. If you work through the first two components, this third one will follow without fail. Test me on this one. Note: It’s possible it might take you 3-6 months before you see the pounds drop.

Lifestyle of Diabetes Exercise

You can beat your type 2 diabetes. I think what most people need is the discipline to continue applying these principles into their lifestyle…..forever!!! Are you 15? 35? 65? 80? You can still eat healthy and exercise to some degree your entire life.

If you aren’t a diabetic and reading this post, you can also apply this to your life and you will see the same results. Your body needs to be healthy or you will end up with health problems at some point in your life and risk becoming a type 2 diabetic. Don’t let your good health allow you to think you are immune to ever having health problems.

At first, a change in lifestyle is hard. But once it becomes a habit you can actually ENJOY eating healthy and ENJOY exercising! I am not exaggerating! I speak for many people out there and I know you are no different. Just take it slowly.

And the first step after reading this article is to put your cookie down,  get up and take a walk around the block! :)
